Personal project:camera-less photography
The history of camera-less photography stretches far back in time back when Anna Atkins (who was the first female to make a camera-less photo) made a cyanotype for research. Before the invention of the camera people use to hire well known painters to draw or paint for them, however you must have been very wealthy to have such a privilege.People such as,Johann Friedrich 1750-1812, Pierrie-Henri de Valenciennes 1750-1819 and Auguste Bernard d'Agesci 1756-1829.Floris Neususs is a person who has made it his life's work to extend the use of photogram, beside his work as an artist he is also a influential writer and a teacher on camera-less photography. He usually does his works in opposites: black and white, shadow and light, movement and stillness, presence and absence.
Here I have created a timeline of the history story of camera less photography. Starting with Anna Atkins and going through the time line with famous camera-less photographers, all the way to the most to the most recent.
Here are some examples of camera-less photography.
Luminograms
What are luminograms?
Luminogrmas are a series of unique prints made by the camera-less photography technique. The method has evolved over the pass few years, it has become a way of bringing day to day photographic prints together such as mushrooms. David Robinson who is the founder of the luminogram technique, use mushrooms to create them.First he cuts the mushrooms and arranges them under the enlarger and expose it to light intensities.Using the effect of the enoki and chanterelles (types of mushrooms) Robinson manages to react and effect of night time scenses.

When I look at this image I see backwards Cs that look like they are all attached together with pieces of glowing string of some sort, to me it looks like a uniquely shaped rocket ship floating in space. In the backward I can a circular print that is navy coloured, moreover in the centre of that I see a black dot. There is also tiny dots sorted randomly, which might be the stars.
This image is abstract- I can't exactly define what is used in the image by the artist. However, I can tell that the artist used circular or oval shapes and maybe some type of string.
This image is quite busy, but there are dark spaces in the image. The composition is very open and diagonal. The tones all contrast each other in addition to that the colours look as if they are glowing in outer space.Because not the objects are in contact with one another it seems like the main object that is in the centre is floating.

Here are my own examples of camera-less photography
Here is one of my first images where I used the chemigram technique. What I did here was that I exposed the photographic to natural light. Then I used a paint brush and dipped that in the fixer then I tried to create an effect of the chemical dripping down like water. Also I used some black paint mixed with some fixer and dripped that down. After I left the paper to be exposed to some more light, then I put the paper in the developer and washed all the chemicals off with water.I think in order to make this better it would have been great if the paint had some ink in so that the image could come out more dramatic and unique.
The second image I made is a photogram using leaves. The leaves were actually very big and I think that was my disadvantage with this image.Because its really difficult to tell what the image is.I feel I could have improved this by using smaller leaves and other nature based objects. In addition to that I also could have paint a little bite of developer on the paper so that the black background would be more of a grey and white tone.
I've decided to create and camera-less photograph of photograms technique.I am particularly interested in the work of Man Ray.Because his photograms are different and unique in there own way and how some are random objects randomly placed together and how some are individually on their own.I want to create an image of nature based.I have chosen to make an image like this because there is a lot I create with this and still make it unique in my own way that defines me.
